It is time to step into community development for a good cause, says the Indian Institute of Technology at Gandhinagar. They have taken a strong lead for the benefit of the community. Their initiative in the form of an outreach program titled Neev imparts vocational skills to the community members. The program revolves around teaching technical skills necessary for a good livelihood such as wiring, carpentry, plumbing, fitting, welding and a lot more core competencies. The course is scheduled to run for two months. The program is funded by the Desai Foundation based in the United States of America. The many partakers feature from the neighboring villages Basan and Palaj.
There is a total of 27 participants between the 18 to 28 years’ age-group. Participants also came in from the neighboring states of Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The innovative outreach program allows the youth to get trained in the mechanical and electrical engineering labs of IIT, Gandhinagar. The course also avails skill based training and several industrial visits. The unique initiative was aimed at creating more employment for the younger generation. The program was also intended to generate more entrepreneurial opportunities. The IIT, Gandhinagar is also associated with providing advanced training to facilitate better livelihoods based on their individual choices.
